Digital Painting

Hey guys! I hope you're all doing well. So, the reason I'm doing this journal is because I really want to learn how to paint digitally. I want to be able to create pictures out of thin air. I do not own a scanner, so I can't scan any line art or previous drawings onto my computer to paint. I've tried painting line art here on dA (with explicit permission of course) but unfortunately I just can't grasp it. I can paint on canvas but not on my computer. I understand the concepts of painting and how things blend and so on and so on but when it comes to painting in Photoshop I'm at a loss. I would love to start digitally painting pictures but I just don't know how. ): Can anyone give some advice, a tutorial, something? I can paint hair and make up, but that's it. I want to be able to do a whole picture. I would really love your guys' help on this.

GIMP is a good tool, with lots of tutorials. Plus if you can get into a school's library, they will prob have some good quality scanners so you could digitize your line art there. My flow is pencils then photocopy, then ink with some felt markers on the photocopy (keeps your orig sketch ok if there's messups), then play around on GIMP. Blend tools are fun, it gives solid edges a painted feel to it.
But I'm just learning [link] for more of my process.
Good luck!!
